Overview

The Physician is responsible for diagnosing and treating a variety of diseases and injuries in a Family Practice model setting; provides comprehensive, outpatient medical services for individuals and families on a continuing basis.  Responsible for Medical Assistant (MA) clinical supervision and continuing verification of the MA's clinical skills competency.  Additionally, at certain sites, the physician is responsible for dispensing pharmaceuticals from the clinic dispensary; may serve as lab director for CLIA waived tests performed in the clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a strong interest in resident education, including devoting sufficient time to the educational program to fulfill their supervisory and teaching responsibilities; administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating residents; regularly participate in organized clinical discussions, rounds, journal clubs, didactics, and conferences; and pursue faculty development designed to enhance their skills at least annually.
  • Provide an important bridge allowing residents to grow and become practice-ready, ensuring that patients receive the highest quality of care.
  • Serve as role models for future generations of physicians by demonstrating compassion, commitment to excellence in teaching and patient care, professionalism, and a dedication to lifelong learning.
  • Provide appropriate levels of supervision to promote patient safety.
  • Create an effective learning environment by acting in a professional manner and attending to the well-being of the residents and themselves.
  • Maintain a ratio of residents-to-faculty preceptors in the FMP not to exceed 4:1.
  • If only one resident is seeing patients in the FMP, a single faculty member must devote at least 50 percent time to teaching and supervising that resident.
  • Core faculty members in programs with an approved complement of 13 or more residents should devote at least 60 percent time (at least 24 hours per week, or 1200 hours per year) to the program, exclusive of patient care without residents.
  • Core faculty members should devote the majority of this professional effort to teaching, administration, scholarly activity, and supervising resident patient care within the program.
  • Teach in office procedures including, but not limited to, the following: IUD removal/insertion, Nexplanon removal/insertion, toenail removal, cryotherapy, joint injections, I&D, removal/biopsy of skin lesions).
  • Serve on residency committees which include, but are not limited to, the following: Clinical Competency Committee, Program Evaluation Committee, Recruitment Committee, Didactics Committee, etc.
  • Serve as faculty mentors for residents to guide career development.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited medical school and Board Certified in a specific medical specialty or have completed residency and be Board Eligible.  Must be licensed in the State of Nevada.
